What is B-Pulse?

The B-Pulse chair is a modality used as part of pelvic floor physiotherapy treatment in which High-Intensity Electromagnetic (HIEM) pulses help the pelvic floor to contract and increase blood flow to the muscle. This is sometimes known as the “Kegel Chair”

How does it work?

The powerful electromagnetic waves activate the motor neurons in the muscle, causing the pelvic floor muscles to contract. This action imitates the exercise known as a "Kegel." During the treatment, you sit fully clothed on the B-Pulse chair for 30 minutes. The intensity is intense yet remains comfortable.

Am I a good candidate for B-pulse?

Research indicates significant improvements in stress, urge, and mixed urinary and fecal incontinence for men, women, and children aged 12 and older. Emerging research suggests the B-Pulse chair may also alleviate prolapse symptoms, aid post-prostatectomy recovery, address dyspareunia and vaginismus, enhance orgasm and sexual function, and help with erectile dysfunction. It offers a valuable alternative for those who prefer not to or cannot undergo internal pelvic floor muscle treatments.

How many treatments do I need?

Improvements are typically noticeable after 3-6 sessions, often combined with other physiotherapy treatments. Sessions should be scheduled at least 48 hours apart, preferably every 3-4 days. For maintenance, sessions are advised once every 3-6 months.

Example treatment plan for someone with stress urinary incontinence:

- Initial evaluation with a physiotherapist to assess the suitability of B-Pulse.

- Three B-Pulse treatment sessions spaced 2-4 days apart.

- Re-assessment by a physiotherapist one week after the final treatment to determine the next steps.

- Follow-up B-Pulse maintenance session in three months.

*This is just an example. Treatment is tailored to each individual's needs.*

What are the steps if I choose to go with the B-Pulse Chair?

  • Step 1.

    Physiotherapy Assessment

There are only a handful of contraindications for the use of B-pulse. To make sure you are an appropriate candidate, assessment is key. During the assessment, if deemed appropriate to use the modality, you ca try to see how it feels, or you can get started with the treatment right away!

  • Step 2.

Treat the pelvic floor, one Kegel at a time!

While you sit on the chair fully clothed, you can catch up on emails, work, texts, calls…and let your pelvic floor be treated. The chair does all the hard work. It is painless, and it is FDA and Health Canada approved.

  • Step 3.

    Maintain the gains.

Just like any other muscle in the body, you need to maintain the muscle training. Whether you choose to do this using the chair or not is completely up to you. The chair is recommended every 3 months for maintenance, or daily exercises at home without the help of the chair. Maintenance is super important!
